The roofs of buildings of most capital cities in India is covered or fulfilled with the flags of many countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Spain and America etc. The most people of India think that when will play India in the World Cup? But India was once qualified for the World Cup-1950. Then, India was in the Qualification Group-10 consist of Burma, the Philippines and Indonesia. But other three countries all withdrew the tournament. So India qualified for the World Cup spontaneously. In the final round of World Cup-1950, India was involved in the Group-3 with Sweden, Italy and Paraguay. But unfortunately, FIFA did not permit them to perform in the tournament barefoot as FIFA made it obligatory in 1950 to wear foot ball boots. That time India used to play barefoot. So, AIFF thought that such a change would have obstructed the team’s present performance. As a result, India withdrew from the World Cup tournament. Association of Indian Football federation (AIFF) also presented many causes for withdrawing the tournament. AIFF said that we have no sufficient practice time for selection the team. Besides, AIFF also faced a large amount of travel cost for a long sea journey. The world football leading body was decided to provide a key part for the flights & that flight would have been Delhi through Amsterdam toward Rio de Janeiro. In spite of such a bountifulness of FIFA, India withdrew the World Cup-1950 from playing because they were not permitted to play barefoot. The captain of Indian of that time; Sailen Manna said, "We had no good idea about World Cup at that time. Then Olympic game was bigger than the World Cup to us.” India withdrew the World Cup-1950 to play as they were not acceptable to play barefoot. But hey completed Olympics-1952 barefoot. The 1950s to 1960s was a golden age of India. In that time, India won gold medals in the Asian Games twice times. Even, India became one of the founder members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 1954. They also qualified for the Olympics till 1960. After then; the Indian football team has never been able to qualify for the Olympics and the World Cup. So, don’t understand the value of World Cup, India made a great mistake to withdraw the world cup at that time.
