FIFA's Technical Study Group elected the contenders and the winner from contenders has selected by representatives of the media. To get 23.4% vote Forlán has become the winner of the Golden Ball Award. 31 years old Forlán has won the Golden Ball Award after closing the World Cup trophy with overwhelming performance.
